Reading and Writing Addiction was able to catch up with Lorrie
Farrelly, Author of Terms of Surrender for an interview. We are excited to share this interesting
interview today with our readers.
RAWA: When did you first discover
that you were a writer?
Lorrie Farrelly, Author of Terms of Surrender |
LF: As a kid, I wrote little books for
my dolls. I’ve always loved to write.
RAWA: What is your favorite part of
writing?
LF: Sharing the exciting stories in my
head and the emotions in my heart. And I love finishing stories so I can read
them myself!
RAWA: What do you think is the most
challenging aspect of writing?
LF: It’s hard for me to get words down
fast enough. My thoughts always outpace my fingers. It’s also challenging when
characters take on a life of their own and do whatever the heck they want to
do, regardless of my intentions for them. Sometimes I actually yell at them in
frustration, “No! No! No! Why did you do THAT?”
RAWA: Tell us about your latest
release.
LF: My last release (2013) was the third
novel in the trilogy that began with TERMS OF SURRENDER. TERMS OF TEMPTATION
follows Michael and Annie Cantrell’s stubborn, impulsive, but deeply dedicated
daughter, Kinley, as she battles poachers – and a handsome, equally stubborn
game warden – in turn-of-the-20th-century Wyoming.
Here’s a peek:
Wyoming Deputy Game Warden Bram Killoran knew what people said
about the tempting Kinley Cantrell:
That crazy Cantrell girl's at it again....
Well, can't say she don't have some grit....
Good thing her brother Ted was here, 'cause drunk as he is, ol'
Purvis mighta got in a lucky swing an' fair killed her....
Dunno, reckon that little bit of a thing mighta killed Purvis
first, feisty as she is....
Well, I declare, she isn't a bit like that sweet little twin of
hers - and doesn't that give a body pause....
My oldest boy, Wesley, escorted her to the Harvest Dance last
fall, don't you know, but turned out she spent the whole time bending his poor
ear about bighorn sheep - or maybe it was muskrats or weasels or some other
such nonsense, but can you even imagine...?
Heard she's got pens full of grizzly cubs and wolves up at that
menagerie of hers, boxes full of rattlers, too....
Ya ask me, Cap'n an' Miz Cantrell oughta lock that one up an'
throw away the goldurn key....
Bram admitted there was a kernel of truth in those remarks, but he
couldn’t stop thinking about Kinley. And he couldn’t stop wanting her.*

RAWA: How did you come up with the
title of your book?
LF: Well, that was something of a
challenge. When I first wrote TERMS OF SURRENDER, I didn’t expect so many
people to ask for more. I was thrilled at the response and realized I had to
write sequels. I wanted to keep the word “Terms” in the titles so readers would
understand the books formed a series.
The second book, Dr. Rob Devlin’s story, was fairly easy to title:
TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT. But for the third book, Kinley Cantrell’s story, I got
stuck for more things that came in “Terms,” but didn’t make the book title
sound like a business contract. The kids weren’t too helpful – they wanted “Terms
of Germs” or “Terms of Worms.” Oh, dear… Well, I finally decided on TERMS OF
TEMPTATION, because temptation is exactly what Bram and Kinley must grapple
with.
RAWA: Who are some of your favorite
authors?
LF: Oh, boy – it might be easier to list
authors I don’t like. (There aren’t many!) But I do especially like Stephen
King, Nora Roberts (also as JD Robb), Dean Koontz, Linda Howard, Elizabeth
Lowell, Robert B. Parker, Harper Lee, plus some wonderful newer authors: Cindy
Nord, Cheryl Pierson, Jackie Weger, Kathleen Rice Adams, Jada Ryker, Sonya
Dodd, Kirstin Arnold, Peggy L. Henderson, Kate Meadows, Jacquie Rogers, Tammie
Clarke Gibbs, Alison Bruce, Glynis Smy, Sharon Buchbinder, Thomas Amo, James
DiBenedetto, and oh, so many other wonderful talents.
RAWA: What do you think has
influenced your writing style the most?
LF: Reading, reading, reading.
RAWA: As a writer what is the
accomplishment that you are most proud of?
LF: Writing stories that others find
gripping, entertaining, and worthwhile. When one reviewer from READERS’ FAVORITE
wrote, “(The pleasure I experienced reading your books) is exactly why I love
to read historical romance!”
RAWA: How did you get published?
LF: I’m an independent author, published
through Kindle Digital Services, Inc.
RAWA: Do you have any advice for
writers looking to get published?
LF: Write what you love, and write it
well.
